History
Galter Library has deep roots in Northwestern University’s medical education legacy, dating back to the 19th century when small collections supported the university’s medical and dental schools. These early efforts blossomed into dedicated libraries, including the Archibald Church Medical Library, established in 1927, and the Dental Library, founded in 1896.
In 1990, a generous gift from Jack and Dollie Galter allowed Northwestern to unite these collections under one name, establishing the Galter Health Sciences Library. Since then, the library has continued to evolve, honoring its rich past while embracing new technologies and services in support of Feinberg’s work to advance health through education and research.
